So just recently, in fact this morning after trying to set my computer to go into suspend mode while I was at work I had an issue with the suspend option. No big deal, I just turned it off. So when i'm booting it up everything is going well, and I sit there waiting a few seconds after I sign in because the screen usually flickers then the desktop and everything pops up. Well this time, absolutely nothing pops up. No desktop, no icons. I tried rebooting several times but came up short again and again. Can anyone tell me what might be causing it, and what I would have to do to solve this issue? I appreciate all input from everyone.

Hi Stargazer23

I have had similar issues, however a reboot usually fixed it.  In any case, would you please be able to post your Xorg.0.log file, and maybe your error.log file, if it exists.  If they are lengthy, perhaps use a paste service such as pastebin.

These logs will help us to solve your issue.

Cheers

If you could tell me how to find those two files I'll surely post them up.

Hi Stargazer23

They should be in the /var/log directory.  If you could post them, I may be able to be help more, but I can't guarantee anything!  But yes, if you could post them, that would be the best place to start, and we'll see where we go from there.

Cheers

As for my error log, it's not saved properly as a log so I have no idea how to open it.
Thank you for the help.

Hi Stargazer23

I don't see anything wrong with the Xorg.0.log file.  My next question is what model is your computer/what parts does it have?  This might give me a better indication on how to go about looking into this problem.

Cheers

The Model is a Dell P28f and it comes with just a basic Intel Processor 2.16 GHz x2
3.7 Gb memory of ram, about 500 GB Harddrive and a regular run of the mill Gen7 Intel Graphics card plus a 64 bit architecture.

Hello Stargazer23

After reading around a bit, it seems that dell laptops have a lot of problems with suspend/resume on Ubuntu and it's derivatives (which includes deepin).  Unfortunately, what a lot of people do to fix it is to install the proprietary graphics drivers.  However, you have intel so I don't see why that would be an issue.

I would like you try something for me.  When you boot the laptop, before logging into Deepin, can you please press CTRL+ALT+F1 to enter the tty1.  Then login as normal into the text environment.

Next I would like you to connect to the internet (wired is preferred but if you only have wifi let me know and I'll step you through it) and run the following:
  1. sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
Copy the Code

Next shutdown the computer safely by running:
  1. sudo shutdown -h now
Copy the Code

Then, please remove the battery for roughly two to three minutes and then put it back in.  This is similar to doing a hard reset, and will hopefully help.  What I think may be the problem is that the computer is still "suspended" into the RAM, and is unable to grab it out of there.  Hopefully by resetting the power we can fix this.

Let me know how it goes,
Kaabi

Unfortunately with this version of this laptop I don't have a Ethernet port so can you guide me for the wifi?

Sure!

When you are in the tty1, enter the following:
  1. sudo bash
Copy the Code

Then, you want to edit the wpa_supplicant configuration file by running the following:
  1. nano /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
Copy the Code

An example configuration, with dummy names and WPA password:
  1. network={
  2.     ssid="MyNetworkName"
  3.     psk="MySecretPassword"
  4. }
Copy the Code
Next, assuming your wifi interface is wlan0, you can connect with:
  1. wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dwext && dhclient wlan0
Copy the Code

If your interface isn't wlan0, you can find it by running:
  1. ifconfig
Copy the Code

To test your internet, use:
  1. ping -c 3 google.com
Copy the Code
It should send packets back if your internet is working.
Let me know how you go
Kaabi
