I still can't the get the default left and right bottom hot corners to work. To get the Control Centre to open I have assigned it to the top right corner. Here it works consistently. It is not perfect but it does the job. I have assigned the bottom left "Desktop" to the top left. I use the icon launcher to access the menus.

Just to report that the hot corner of Control-center doesn't work on my system (nvidia driver installed in 2014.2)
Clicking on the icon on the panel opens it (so far).
