    I have downloaded a variety of apps including Dolphin, Kpat and Kmahjongg. None of these will open from the icon placed in the dock (Classic mode). They will however open if an icon is sent to the desktop, or from the main menu, but this is not what I want. Is there any way to correct the "unknown" nature of their dock icons?

    Try switch to Fashion mode , than switch back.It works for me.

    That is a clear bug , I hope it fixed in the future. For now, this is what has worked for me :
    1. First, open the desired application from the main menu.2. When the application is open, right click on the dock and select the option: add the dock.

    This worked for me when I wanted to create a launcher for Krusader. An unknown icon is placed,
    and does not open the application. Until I discovered how to do the above procedure.
