Hi!

I tried to install VBA-M from it's .debs (downloaded from sourceforge), but there's a dependency issue: it needs libatkmm-1.6-1 (>= 2.22.1), but it cannot be installed, because it breaks the libatkmm-1.6-1v5 package, which is a dependency of gnome-system-monitor, gparted, libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 and libgtkmm-3.0-1v5. Because I can live without these stuff, i removed them, but run into another dependency issue: libglibmm-2.4-1c2a (>= 2.40.0) - The reqested package is missing, outdated or only available from another source, but the following packages replace it libglibmm-2.4-1v5:i386 libglibmm-2.4-1v5. Both are installed, but they don't solve the dependency. What can i do?

PS: I've had several dependency issues in the past, but i reinstalled Deepin 15.1 since then. And now these are the only dependency issues.

You trying to install software which is prepared for ubuntu. Better install it from deepin repos.

  1. sudo apt-get install visualboyadvance-gtk visualboyadvance
Copy the Code

and you will have stable version 1.8

You are wrong. VBA-M is not VisualboyAdvance! It's the merge of the original VisualBoyAdvance forks (see VBA-M sourcforge). My problem with VisualBoyAdvacne is that it doesn't have gamepad support.

It appears those packages are tailor made for certain version of Ubuntu. not only is there dependency issues there is also possible binary compatibility issues as well

Ok, so it's impossible, until someone rebuild it from scratch to this system. If it works well with wine, then I'll use it's windows version, if it won't, I'll run it natively (or in compatibility mode) under Windows.

Yes unfortunately many programs are only made for one version of Linux. If they had a source code version possible it could be compiled for Debian. I am not familiar enough with that application to say.
