Hi,
anybody upgraded with the command ...
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
while doing an upgrade does it format root(/) and install it or it install over existing 15.4.1 ?
I just want to know if all the apps/softwares from 15.4.1 are intact and working after upgrading to 15.5 Beta ?

--- update ---
i ran un update through the control center ... upgraded to 15.5 beta ... answering my own question, my 15.4.1 workspace(installed softwares) is intact after upgrade.

first run ...

1. I thought the option to decide whether or not to upgrade would have been better instead of a forced beta update(for people with serious work setups the 'beta' forced updates will throw their work OS out of safe waters) ... might want to consider the choice to the user whether to upgrade or not (i can confirm ubuntu had such an option and i choose never to upgrade)
2. The control center is NOT accessible more often than not ... i had to go through the control center app in the launcher.
3. Launcher app icons are too big ... 15.4.1 had better(more harmonious) siandze/proportions.
4. Couldn't find Deepin clone(manual install through the store), Deepin Recovery(not found in store) & touchpad gesture settings after upgrading to 15.5.

5. Native OS Hotspot option is great, until now i had been using network-manager-gnome to create a manual hotspot. I AM HOWEVER SURPRISED DEEPIN DOES NOT SUPPORT NATIVE 'MOBILE BROADBAND(wwan)' DEVICES ... again thanks to network-manager-gnome as i am currently connecting my wwan interface through it.

more will follow as and when i come across ...

thanks.

Awesome release, what I appreciate the most is the new High DPI Display support, however I must report that some applications still do not scale, for example neither of the following do it for me:

Spotify
Gimp
WPS Applications such as Writer
TeamViewer

I wish there was a way to force them to scale even if they look slightly blurry like it is possible in Windows with apps which do not scale normally.

Other than that great release. I do however have a few suggestions for now for the Deepin development team:

1-) How about giving more options on the power settings for allowing the user to select exactly how many minutes they want for Deepin to turn off the monitor? I believe 1, 5, 10, 15 is just too norrow of a choice, how about just 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on till like maybe 15 or so?

2-) it's a little annoying that the control center closes immediately after you try to do something else on the desktop, it would be great if there was a way to just "Dock it" momentarily if the user wishes to do so.

3-) How about allowing the user to add desktop shortcuts to items such as Music, Documents, Movies, Pictures etc? right now I don't see a way to do this.

4-) Allow  for either a user a PIN or a password to login into the user desktop a la Windows style, also allow for when you enter the right PIN there should not be a need to press Enter, once you enter the right PIN it just logs you in to your account immediately.

I'm very happy with deepin, planning to support it all the day, it's the best Linux distribution for the regular Windows user looking for alternatives, keep up the good work guys!

Spotify has its command option to scale the UI
spotify --force-device-scale-factor=2 %U
And sure, some sort of system side scaling for no HiDPI supported apps would be great.

On i7-6700K and GTX 1080:
1. Upgrade via terminal didn't work (no upgrade available)
2. Installed 15.5 beta fresh from USB
3. After install, went to desktop, it opened in my native resolution 3840x2160, but worked very sluggish and was throwing me back to login screen every couple of minutes or every time I tried to set the scaling or lower the resolution in control center (error messages concerned nouveau drivers).
So I decided to launch tty2, logged in (in text mode only), installed nvidia dirivers with "sudo apt-get install nvidia-driver" and rebooted.
Now I can set 4k resolution and scale the UI x2 in control center - no errors, seems stable (and looks gorgeous!!!)
4. Deepin movie (flatpack) does not work:
  1. /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=master --arch=x86_64 --command=deepin-movie --file-forwarding com.deepin.Movie @@u %U @@
  2. (process:3): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
  3.         Using the fallback 'C' locale.
  4. save old XDG_CONFIG_HOME: "/home/cyberleszcz/.var/app/com.deepin.Movie/config"
  5. set XDG_CONFIG_HOME "/home/cyberleszcz/.config"
  6. set XDG_CONFIG_HOME "/home/cyberleszcz/.var/app/com.deepin.Movie/config"

... the lightdm greeter launches in 4k@60 fps, but the desktop switches to 4k@ 30fps and I had to add a script to autostart:
  1. xrandr --output HDMI-1 --primary --mode 3840x2160 --rate 60

... to switch back to 4k@60fps but it results in a 2s black screen after login and disrupts the startup sound. I know I can delay it a bit, but would like to apply a better workaround.
Can anyone explain to me why the refresh rate is inconsistent between the greeter and the desktop?

Hey https://bbs.deepin.org/user/88427 thanks for the spotify --force-device-scale-factor=2 %U command, however how do I make this permanent? when I close the terminal it closes Spotify and on next startup it goes back to original scaling, is there anyway to add this command to the program startup itself like we do in Windows?

Go to /usr/share/applications as root and open spotify.desktop file there with text editor.
Next you need to modify the "Exec" line, so it looks like this:

Hi Realact,
glad I helped at least a bit ;)

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any "magical" command scaling all apps to HiDPI, though I thought, that this Spotify "oneliner" will work on other apps aswell, unfortunately, it didn't. Surely some day we will have all our apps properly supporting HiDPI, just hang on ;)

Linux is a beautiful thing you know? I have 3 distros running now: Mint, Elementary and Deepin (all on their own SSD's). In future I will stick to the absolutely best one, which will require the least additional effort from user side.
Till that day comes, learning linux will do us no harm ;)
Cheers!
