As a Linux distribution from the global open-source community, deepin is committed to providing beautiful, easy-to-use, safe, and reliable operating systems for global partners. Thanks to your enthusiasm and active feedback, deepin keeps improving.

In communication with community users, we often receive the personalization demands of the whole operating system. Now the settings of deepin are relatively stable, easy to operate, and have fixed rules. Therefore, users with advanced development requirements for more flexible personalization and customization management of the operating system and desktop environment cannot be satisfied at present.

Because of this, we decide to independently develop an advanced setting tool for developers and geek users in the community. It has a graphical interface and provides powerful and convenient management capabilities for deepin friends who desire more system personalization. In the future, it may cover advanced global customization in all aspects (window manager, desktop environment, File Manager, kernel, etc.), so as to meet the advanced customization demands.

Design features for the tool

The V1.0 tool will aim at solving these common issues: the title bar is too high, the spacing between desktop icons is too large, and the rounded window corners of deepin applications and third-party applications are not the same, etc.

The tool will fully follow open-source rules and serve as a bridge between the deepin team and developers to together achieve advanced customization management for the whole operating system.

In the future, the tool will contain:

• advanced management functions that are planned and developed by the community and cannot be implemented in the general version
• customization features widely expected by users but not supported in the general version
• customization functions submitted by developers in the community

For stronger personalization and customization capabilities, a setting tool is not enough. DDE individual components should also be customizable so that the tool can display the relevant settings in UI form. In the development process of this advanced setting tool, the involved community partners can easily and deeply understand DDE details, and DDE can be enhanced to meet the needs of more users.

We sincerely request tool names from all deepin partners. You are appreciated to tell us your favorite English or Chinese names by leaving a message.

After collecting all the names, we will announce the final tool name within 7-10 working days. Hope its name is decided by you!
