I have bugun to see text messages during boot and sutdown after updates on 12/8/17. I would like to know the cause.

I do not know why that is displayed but I know what it is.
It is an system update log.
It lists which packages were (automatically? - You can set this in settings) updated.

The update history is not what I'm seeing , I just wanted to give a record of what changed . I'm seeing a window manager startup/shutdown message not seen until after these updates. It doesn't cause any operating problems it just looks bad. This installation started as 15.4 to beta to 15.5. I have run sudo dpkg --configure -a with no effect.

This started since the last update we had a few days ago, you can see this and also a weird transition from the lockscreen to the desktop, a black screen can also be seen for a few seconds, this is a bug and has been reported.

This is not a problem ,if you force quit any application or run heavy application like Android Studio . That type of text message show in shutdown - From Nepal

problem solved after a clean installation of 15.6
